Why 2018+ Stellantis Vehicles Need AutoAuth + SGW
In 2018, FCA (now Stellantis) added a Security Gateway Module (SGW) to every Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram vehicle. The SGW blocks bidirectional OBD writes — meaning aftermarket scan tools can't program keys, reset immobilizers, or reflash modules until the SGW is unlocked. The unlock requires an active AutoAuth subscription tied to a verified VIN. Most independent locksmiths skipped paying for AutoAuth, which is why so many 2018+ Wrangler / Ram / Charger owners get told 'sorry, dealer only.' We pay for AutoAuth and have the SGW unlock workflow refined — same as Mopar dealer techs.
